BWT Bestprotect S

The BWT bestprotect filter cartridge is intended for coffee and espresso machines with a steam boiler, and is also suitable for combi steamers and ovens. A high-performance ion exchanger reduces the hardness-forming calcium ions and thus protects your machine against deposits of limescale and gypsum, which can form with water containing carbonates or sulphates. At the same time, the cartridge provides balanced mineralisation and a consistently high pH value, which can reduce the risk of corrosion. Activated carbon with silver reduces chlorine as well as unwanted odours and tastes, and several particle filters retain sand, rust and fine suspended matter.

Unlike the BWT bestmax PREMIUM, the bestprotect works without a bypass: all of the water flows through the cartridge. It may only be installed vertically. If protecting the boiler is your main concern, for example with water containing sulphates, the bestprotect is a good choice; if taste matters most to you, I recommend the BWT bestmax PREMIUM.

Replace the cartridge as soon as the capacity for your water hardness has been reached, but no later than after 12 months. BWT recommends a regular change after 6 months. The table shows which capacity you can expect at your water hardness – your local water supplier can tell you the hardness of your water.

To operate the cartridge you need the BWT besthead FLEX filter head (FS00Z20A00), onto which the cartridge is screwed. The filter head stays on the machine when you change the filter; you only replace the cartridge. To connect it to the machine you can use, for example, the BWT Schlauchset FLEX 1 (FS00Z32A00). The BWT Aquameter (FS00Y03A00) measures the amount of water that has actually passed through, so you can see in good time when the capacity has been reached.

As a guide: at a water hardness of 14 °dH and a machine with steam generation, the capacity of about 440 litres lasts around six months if roughly 2.4 litres of water pass through the filter each day – this suits, for example, an espresso machine at home or in a small office with moderate consumption. With softer water the cartridge lasts longer, with harder water correspondingly shorter.

Capacity of the BWT Bestprotect S:

According to BWT, the values apply to the preparation of hot beverages with steam generation, without bypass. Depending on water quality and flow rate, they may deviate by up to ± 5 %. BWT recommends replacing the filter cartridge regularly after 6 months, but no later than after 12 months or when the capacity has been reached.

Tip: With the BWT Aquameter (FS00Y03A00) you can keep an eye on the capacity. The flow meter records how much water has passed through the filter and shows the remaining capacity, so you can see in good time when the filter cartridge should be replaced.
