BWT Bestmax Premium XL
Product details
The BWT bestmax PREMIUM filter cartridge is intended for preparing coffee, espresso and tea – in espresso machines with steam generation as well as in coffee and vending machines without steam generation. A high-performance ion exchanger reduces the carbonate hardness and releases magnesium into the water in exchange for calcium (BWT Magnesium Technology). Magnesium is regarded as a flavour carrier and can support the aroma of coffee and tea; at the same time the cartridge protects your machine against limescale deposits. Activated carbon with silver reduces chlorine as well as unwanted odours and tastes, and several particle filters retain sand, rust and fine suspended matter.
On the BWT besthead FLEX filter head you set the bypass in steps from 0 to 3. It determines how much untreated water is blended with the filtered water and depends on the hardness of your water and on whether your machine generates steam. You will find the recommended setting in the table. The bestmax PREMIUM can be installed vertically or horizontally. By contrast, the BWT bestprotect works without a bypass, is installed vertically only and is designed primarily to protect machines with a steam boiler against limescale and gypsum.
Replace the cartridge as soon as the capacity for your water hardness has been reached, but no later than after 12 months. BWT recommends a regular change after 6 months. The table shows which capacity you can expect at your water hardness – your local water supplier can tell you the hardness of your water.
To operate the cartridge you need the BWT besthead FLEX filter head (FS00Z20A00), onto which the cartridge is screwed. The filter head stays on the machine when you change the filter; you only replace the cartridge. To connect it to the machine you can use, for example, the BWT Schlauchset FLEX 1 (FS00Z32A00). The BWT Aquameter (FS00Y03A00) measures the amount of water that has actually passed through, so you can see in good time when the capacity has been reached.
As a guide: at a water hardness of 14 °dH and a machine with steam generation, the capacity of about 2,785 litres lasts around six months if roughly 15.3 litres of water pass through the filter each day – this suits, for example, a commercial espresso machine in a café or restaurant in regular daily use. With softer water the cartridge lasts longer, with harder water correspondingly shorter.
Capacity of the BWT Bestmax Premium XL – hot beverage preparation with steam generation (e.g. espresso machine):
| Total hardness of the tap water (°dH) | Bypass setting on the filter head | Capacity in litres |
|---|---|---|
| up to 7 | 3 | at least 6,140 |
| 8 | 3 | 5.375 |
| 10 | 3 | 4.300 |
| 12 | 2 | 3.250 |
| 14 | 2 | 2.785 |
| 17 | 1 | 2.060 |
| 20 | 1 | 1.750 |
| 23 | 1 | 1.520 |
| 25 and above | 1 | max. 1,400 |
Capacity of the BWT Bestmax Premium XL – vending without steam generation:
| Total hardness of the tap water (°dH) | Bypass setting on the filter head | Capacity in litres |
|---|---|---|
| up to 7 | 3 | at least 7,370 |
| 8 | 3 | 6.450 |
| 10 | 3 | 5.160 |
| 12 | 3 | 3.900 |
| 14 | 3 | 3.340 |
| 17 | 3 | 2.470 |
| 20 | 3 | 2.100 |
| 23 | 3 | 1.825 |
| 25 and above | 2 | max. 1,680 |
The values are taken from the BWT data sheet. Set the bypass on the filter head as shown in the table for your water hardness. Depending on water quality and flow rate, the capacities may deviate by up to ± 5 %. BWT recommends replacing the filter cartridge regularly after 6 months, but no later than after 12 months or when the capacity has been reached.
